Anyone ever see a lost wheel cover on the side of the road and been tempted to pick it up and take it home with them?
I have, especially when I can actually recognize what make and model it fell off of.
I really get tempted if I see a Volkswagen wheel cover.

Yep I saw a old school Ford "pie pan" one from the '80s the other day and was this close to stopping.

Back in the days of hub caps, I lost one on a dip and it went rolling at around 50mph onto a sorority house lawn. The person who retrieved it and handed it to me was extraordinary in every way to my 17 year old mind.

I saw a MkIV Golf wheel cover once and wanted to grab it.
If the cover is in good enough condition, there could be good money to be made from randomly lost wheel covers.
For example, a single OEM Saturn ION wheel cover can be bought on eBay for at least $30, usually more.

Yeah, if it's already propped up, I'd leave it alone.

If it's in good enough condition, sell it on eBay. There's good money to be made from OEM wheel covers in good condition, even if it's just one.

No, but there is a lost wheel on the side of the road on my drive home. I want to find out if it is a steelie or aluminum but that requires pulling over into the median.

Yes, especially the metal ones.
Several years ago, I was making the several hour drive home to visit the parental units. I hit a pothole in the middle of some empty noname town in TX and watched one of my wheel covers roll into a random emtpy lot. Not wanting to get out of the car into the cold, reluctantly, I left it. On my way back several days later, there it was still sitting there in the dirt. So I ran out there, picked it up and put it back in the wheel before the light turned green again.

Shipping is usually a bitch living in Canada though.
